‘Today, Billy Joe MacAllister jumped off the Tallahatchie Bridge”  the movie inspired by the song was released in 1976

Just a few days before Becky jumped off the bridge the very same bridge where her sister had been murdered and the very same bridge she had survived being thrown from by the two abuctors, she had rented a videotape of the film Ode to Billy Joe. She had watched the film four times that weekend always crying. This time she didn’t survive leaving behind her young daughter.
